The Gift of Laughter: Celebrating Unforgettable Memories

Yesterday, I went to Tirunelveli and met my cousins, and this time, things felt different. You see, I'm in my final year of college, while all my cousins—brothers and sisters—are married with kids. Even my own sister has kids now! We sat together, chatting and laughing like old times. It felt like nothing had changed, yet so much had.

As we were enjoying our conversation, my uncle walked in and joined us. After a while, he smiled and said, "I’ll never forget the ‘enjoyable torture’ you all put me through when you were younger!" Instantly, my mind traveled back to those days, and memories of our childhood came flooding in.

We used to be terrible (in the best way possible) to him! One time, we pushed his bike into the river while pretending to help him park it. Every morning when we’d head to the river, we wouldn't let him sleep peacefully. And, oh, how we loved dipping biscuits into his tea when he wasn’t looking! Of course, that would always end with him giving us that famous look of his—half annoyed, half amused.

The best moments were when we’d sprinkle water at him while playing in the river, laughing uncontrollably as he tried to dodge us. We’d drag him along to the movies, even if he wasn’t interested, and we’d scribble all over his hands just to annoy him. He never got truly mad. Instead, he’d just join in the fun, making our pranks even better.

But then came the real fun—whenever my aunt caught us making mistake, she’d scold him instead of us! "How old are you? Why are you playing with these kids?" she’d say, and the look on his face was priceless every time! He’d stand there, pretending to be all serious, but we knew he was trying not to laugh. His expressions were unforgettable.

As I think back to those times, there’s one lesson my uncle taught me that I’ll never forget: "Enjoy your life—it’s temporary. If anyone is annoying you, enjoy it with them." That’s exactly what he did with us. He turned our playful annoyances into moments of joy and laughter, showing us that life is better when you choose to have fun, no matter what.

Looking back, I realize how lucky we were to have someone like him in our lives. He never once told us to stop or got angry—he gave us the freedom to be wild and happy. He was more than just an uncle; he was our partner-in-crime, our biggest supporter. And for that, I’m forever thankful.

Uncles like him are rare, and I can't help but feel grateful that he was a part of my childhood, making every moment more joyful and carefree. Thank you, God, for giving us someone who could turn even the silliest moments into memories we'll cherish forever.

"Life is a series of beautiful moments; cherish them, laugh often, and keep the memories alive."
